Public Design and Making a Success of Major Public Projects
Event details
The recently published Public Design Evidence Review has been published at a moment when Government are asking fundamental questions about how government can work better for people, designing policies and services that are not only more effective, but more human, and designed by the people they serve. The Test, Learn and Grow team in the Cabinet Office has been set up to further expand the use of design methods initiated by the Government Digital Service formed in 2011 and Policy Lab in 2014. It expands the effort bringing design, digital and data experts, and frontline workers into policymaking.
In this session with Janet Hughes, Dr Carla Groom and Prof Lucy Kimbell, the panellists will give an overview to set out the key principles of the review, and how they envisage it will transform Government design and spark new conversations and collaborations across the public sector, with all members of the wider ecosystem understanding their part to play .
The Q&A is designed to be a working session, and will focus on 4 key questions. Attendees are invited to prepare their thoughts and experience on these questions to the event to feed into the debate. The 4 questions are:
• When Human Centred design at the business/policy level is done well, what are the key features of this? What examples do we have of doing this well?
• What are the key barriers that industry see in rolling out business- level design across public sector?
• What actions should senior leaders in Government and the private sector take to ensure Design is done well on a consistent basis?
• How can the Design process take the development of AI into account ?
