Air Commodore Matthew Harper is the Head of the Australian Defence Staff in London. Prior to this appointment, he commanded No. 3 Squadron, leading the unit through key F-35A capability milestones and first-of-type deployments. He later served as Commander of the Tactics and Training Directorate, overseeing the development of Integrated Tactical Procedures for the Royal Australian Air Force.

A fighter pilot by background, Air Commodore Harper has accumulated more than 3,000 flying hours on various aircraft including the F/A-18A, F/A-18F, F-22A, and F-35A. He has completed Australia’s Command and Staff Course and the United Kingdom’s Higher Command and Staff Course. He now leads the Australian Defence Staff in London, supporting the High Commissioner in advancing Australia’s strategic relationship with the United Kingdom.
