Aligning the Whole of Society to Drive a Resilient UK
Event details
Please join us for a panel discussion followed by a short drinks reception with Fiona Hill, Elisabeth Braw and Sherin Aminossehe. This event, held to align with International Women's Day on the 8 March, will focus on national security in a broad sense, encompassing economic security, resilience and defence.
Fiona Hill CBE launched the Future Resilience Forum (FRF) in London in 2023. She was the first female Chief-of-Staff to a UK Prime Minister with ten years of experience of working at the top level of government with a seat on the National Security Council. FRF exists to embed resilience within democratic systems at a time of accelerating global disruption. It is a working forum designed to anticipate risk, shape opportunity and turn insight into action. It attracts leading political figures and corporates to London annually.
Alongside FRF, Fiona also runs her own strategic advisory company, Marsham Street Consultants providing geo-political advice to organisations around the world. Fiona is a former journalist working in broadcast media as News Editor for SKY News and in print media as a writer for the Scotsman Newspaper and the Daily Record.
Sherin Aminossehe is the Ministry of Defence’s Director for Growth and Mission, a role she has held since July 2025. She is responsible for implementing the Government’s Plan for Change, ensuring the uplift in Defence spending drives growth across the UK. Her portfolio includes leading on Defence Growth Deals, Defence Finance and Investment Strategy, SRO for the Union and advancing industrial skills through initiatives such as Defence Technology Excellence Colleges (DTECs) and the Defence University Alliance. She was previously the MoD's first Director of Infrastructure, appointed in August 2019. In this role, she oversaw the strategic management of both global and domestic infrastructure, including the £5bn Defence Estate Optimisation Portfolio. She also served as the MOD Race Champion, promoting and championing ethnic diversity within the department and supporting colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
An architect by training, Sherin has led large-scale infrastructure and regeneration projects globally. Before joining the MOD, Sherin was Head of Commercial Office Business at Lendlease, where she led regeneration projects such as the office and leisure components of International Quarter London in Stratford, Silvertown, and Euston, with a combined gross development value exceeding £5bn. She also spearheaded the company’s social impact strategy.
She is Deputy Chair (trustee) of the Imperial War Museum, was awarded an honorary doctorate from UCEM for her contributions to the built environment and was recognised in the global Empower Executive Role Model Lists 2025 for her efforts in driving racial inclusion at work.
Elisabeth Braw is a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, focusing on geopolitics and the globalised economy as well as greyzone and hybrid threats. She’s also a columnist with Foreign Policy and Politico Europe and the author of the award-winning Goodbye Globalization: The Return of a Divided World (Yale University Press). Her latest book, Undersea War, will be published by John Murray Press and Basic Books this October.
At the Atlantic Council, Elisabeth leads the Threats to the Global Maritime Order initiative. She was previously a senior research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI). She’s the author of God’s Spies, about the Stasi’s church division (2019) and The Defender’s Dilemma: Identifying and Deterring Gray-Zone Aggression (2022). She is also a member of M&C Saatchi World Services’ advisory council, a member of GALLOS Technologies’ advisory board, an adviser to Willis Towers Watson’s research arm, a member of the Aurora Forum’s steering committee and a member of the UK National Preparedness Commission. Before joining academia, she worked in the private sector following a career as a journalist.
