The government’s core focus is economic growth, supported by the new Industrial Strategy. They are also committed to regional devolution and growth at regional level. Combined Authorities will be expected to take a significant lead to accelerate growth in regions and are building the private sector relationships to deliver this at pace and scale.

The North East has a long-established defence and security cluster, with a growing space sector. The North East Growth Plan highlights defence, security and space as key economic opportunities for the region.  

This event, convened by the D Group at the Glasshouse in Gateshead, will bring together key national and regional players to work together on a plan for accelerated growth in the defence, security and space sectors within the region.

Event Objectives

• Bring together national and regional players in the defence, security and space sectors, as well as key figures in enabling sectors across academia and government

• Focus discussions on addressing the ‘what’ to the ‘how’ of accelerating growth in the defence, security and space sectors in the region, with a particular focus on:

o National and regional policy alignment (Policy and Purpose)

o Skills (People)

o Supporting infrastructure (Place)

o Investment and Inclusive Growth

• Produce a practical set of next steps with owners and sponsors, to continue the momentum in the short and medium term
