Peter Hendy, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill, has been the Chair of Network Rail since July 2015, and Chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation since July 2017.

He started his transport career in 1975 as a London Transport graduate trainee, later becoming the Commissioner of Transport for London (TfL) from 2006 - 2015. He is a trustee of London’s Transport Museum and of the Science Museum Group. He led the successful operation of London’s transport for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Lord Hendy’s experience in leading urban transport in a world city is critical to chairing Network Rail and managing its complex relationships with stakeholders.

Lord Hendy is a past international and UK president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transport, and of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

He was knighted in the 2013 New Year’s Honours List, having been made CBE in 2006 for services to public transport and the community in London, and made a life peer in 2022.
